Skyweaver Set Review – Starter Decks,Part 4: Heart
welcome to Part 4 of the series, In this part we are reviewing New Heart Prism cards. Similar to previous parts, I exclude cards that are weaker versions of already existing cards and also cards with no effects. I wish you a pleasant reading.
1-) Royal Priestess
A very nice 1-cost addition to Heart Prism, as a guard it might not be very strong but, it adds another 1-cost light guard to your hand(Royal Mummy), enhancing your options in hand. Mummy can also keep holding the game, prevent hero attack because of lifesteal and synergize with other light units such as; Light Knight and Eclipse Mummy, or also synergize with life gain effects such as Hexed Surit’s effect. Overall, simple looking but practical addition to the heart.

2-) Gemboid
When Skyweaver received the Starter Decks, the mana system of the game also changed, and now Mana Crystals are more valuable as also the cards that can provide those crystals. Crystals cost 0 and grant you 1 mana upon play, allowing you to play higher-cost turns, that can put your opponent into a disadvantageous position. Gemboid is one of the units that grant these crystals. Besides its ability to give a crystal on death, it has a weak body and no keywords. So generally it is only played for its effect. Since the card is only 1 cost, it can be nice early game play, and depending on your deck you can cover up its weak stats by playing other defensive units, but during later turns it is harder to gain Gemboid’s benefit.

3-) Skaterboid
Even though Skaterboid has a small body, it is capable of pushing damage on the turn that it is played, and upon death, it summons another unit(Zomboid) which can keep dealing damage and synergize well with the other Heart cards. Especially right now, Zomboid decks are very effective, being able to deal lots of damage, and can be hard to control if you are lacking answers or low on health. Another advantage is, you skip the summoning cost of the Zomboid, and you can utilize the options in your hand much better, and since Zomboid is a sacrificeable unit you can easily use a card such as; Offering and Corpse Explosion on it.

4-) Sunbeam
A simple card that deals 2 to a unit and heals your hero 2. The card is not so effective as a removal tool and especially in the mid-to-late game it is not useful. I haven’t seen it being played a lot in Constructed and probably won’t see it for a while.

5-) Graveboid
For its costs and also for a unit, Graveboid’s effect is not a bad effect but most of the time, especially in the late game, you don’t know what unit you will be getting from your grave which makes it worse when compared to other cards that returns units from the grave. It can be a potential addition to decks that prefer returning units aggressively from the grave but I would prefer upgrading the deck with a better unit.

6-) Lootboid
Similar to Graveboid, you don’t know which card or what type of card you will be drawing, which may end up not being very beneficial. It is still an option to grow your hand size and have more options, but as a body, it will not impact the state of the board heavily.

7-) Scarab of Life
Even though we already have a very similar card in the game, the iconic Funguy, Scarab of Life is finding its use in the game, especially in Bouran decks. Bouran’s ability can trigger its death effect and giving all ally units on board +1+1 can be a very effective effect. If it survives its effect can scale up, making the board even stronger. Outside of Bouran decks, it is still not a bad card but you will need to use additional cards to trigger its death effect more than once which makes it less effective to use. Overall, very strong card in Bouran decks, and a decent card outside of Bouran.

8- Offering
For 2 mana being able to summon a 4-4 Wither and in addition to that drawing a card is very effective. The condition that is required to play this card is having a unit on board and sacrificing it. In some cases, this may seem like a disadvantage that you are losing a unit but in most scenarios, it is not. As we saw before, units of Heart are capable of generating other units, so it is not so hard to find another cheap unit to sacrifice, in addition to this you can trigger the death effect of that unit if it has any, making Offering a valuable card both in and outside of Bouran decks.

9-) Royal Guard
As a 3-cost unit, having 2-3 body is definitely not strong, however its effect coverups its weak stats. Upon death it summons a Royal Mummy, creating another obstacle for your opponent to deal with. After turn 3, it might be easier to deal with an extra unit but still, the mummy will stop some damage and possibly grant some life to your hero thanks to its lifesteal and its ability. Overall, a decent card both in and outside of Bouran decks.

10-) Corpse Explosion
It is known that among 3-4 cost options there are other cards that can deal 2 damage to other units and also deal 2 damage with wither, without requiring you to sacrifice one of your units, but if you are playing this card in your deck, most probably you are willing to sacrifice a unit to trigger its death effect and deal some damage to enemy units. Combining it with Flame Phoenix can be a very effective option for clearing the enemy board.

11-) Bloatboid
Bloatboid has the same damage ability as Flame Phoenix but has some key important differences. Even though both apply the same amount of damage, Bloatboid’s damage is superior thanks to its Wither keyword. Enemy units do not just lose their health but also their attack power. Thanks to Bouran’s ability and death effect triggering cards, you can turn Bloatboit into a very effective removal tool. Flame Phoenix’s main advantage is providing Fireball spell, which is both a very effective finisher and a removal tool, so which one you gonna choose is up to you, or you may choose both of them. The card is more effective in Bouran because of Bouran’s ability, but still, outside of Bouran, it is a very good card.

12-) Hordeboid
A nice addition to Zomboid decks, which can summon more Zomboids for you and also help you defensively. 4 cost, 3-3 is not an impressive statline for a guard but its ability is very useful for pushing more damage and also to have more Zomboids in your grave for later Graveroil combo. With Bouran’s ability, you can summon more Zomboids and make the card more useful, but still, it is a good card for Zomboid decks outside of Bouran.

13-) Soulmaw Ammit
A card that almost sees no use in higher ranks currently, I think the main reason for this is the release of Sentinel of Qai, which shadowed Soulmaw. It is 4 cost, 3-4 without guard, and deals 3 damage to the lowest health enemy on death, meaning it can also kill the enemy hero as well, but that rarely happens. On the other hand, Sentinel might not deal damage to the enemy hero but it directly kills the lowest health unit on death, so no need for maths to find out how much damage you need to deal the unit for Soulmaw to kill it. Sentinel also comes with 3-cost, 2-5 body, and guard and lifesteal keywords. Overall, it was an okay card but now it’s even below okay.

14-) Joinboid
Joinboid was an underperforming card and it received a buff with Patch 121, making it a 5/5 instead of 4/4. The card has a strong death effect, allowing it to summon a 4-4 wither unit. Now that it is 5/5 it can hold the game better and create a better aggression. Especially, if you are playing Bouran you can trigger its death effect and suddenly have a strong board. If you are facing aggression and trying to play Joinboid when you are behind, it may not show the same impact, because it doesn’t provide any protection or any instant effect, so its value reduces. I think overall it is a nice card to play in Bouran decks especially if you can manage to become the early aggressor.

15-) Harvestboid
Harvestboid is a card that I rarely see being played in higher ranks. I think this is due to a couple of reasons. Firstly, the card doesn’t provide strong aggression compared to its cost. Secondly, after turn 6, most likely you already acquired some of the key cards that you want to play, thanks to your early game cards. Lastly, it doesn’t easily fit into every deck. With Zomboid decks, it may end up overdrawing and with other types of decks, it may not draw enough. So it is a risky card to play, fitting not all sorts of decks, especially since it doesn’t fit well to the current meta decks.

16-) Giant Mummy
As mentioned before Royal Mummy can be an effective unit if it is summoned by other units to hold the game, heal your hero and prevent damage from the enemy hero. Giant Mummy summons two of them providing a wall and you can even summon 2 more with Bouran’s hero ability. On top of that even though it doesn’t have the strongest stat line, Giant Mummy is a guard unit, providing more protection against enemy attacks. Thanks to its ability, you may find yourself with a decent board and pushing damage against the enemy. Outside Bouran it is still not a bad card and provides its value.

17-) Cycle of Life
You can check part 1 of this series to read my general opinion about the +1+1 card that came with the latest set. About Cycle of Life itself, it can be a beneficial card, when we think cards of Heart Prism are capable of summoning lots of units by both card effects and death effects, such as; Giant Mummy or, Call the Dead. However, the spell is costly to play and becomes more beneficial if you are already being aggressive. Other than that it’s a risky play that may result in your opponent pushing more aggression towards you.

18-) Kingboid
Depending on the number of units that you have in your grave, Kingboid can come into play as a very strong unit, which may even end the enemy hero next turn if the state of the board is suitable for it to deal damage to the enemy hero. The problem with Kingboid is it doesn’t create an instant impact on the turn you play it like the Power Infusion which gives you a very strong unit too but on the turn you play you can attack with that unit. Kindboid also doesn’t have any protection like; armor, barrier, or shield making it very vulnerable to most of the removal spells. Because of all of this, I actually see the card as a bit similar to Broodwitch. Both of them can be very strong if they can survive the turn that they are played. Of course, Kindboid can push damage to other units too making it more effective than the Witch.

19-) Ancient Sphinx
Sphinx is an effective card that can provide both protection and possible aggression depending on the unit that it summons. Being able to summon your highest health dead unit is an important effect allowing you to benefit from your dead strong units and possibly benefit from their death effect one more time. The card is also useful outside of Bouran decks making it a flexible unit to play. Probably, one of the best cards of the set with its simple yet very effective effect.

20-) Bond of Duty
Another card that can utilize the grave and bring your top two dead units back to play and on top of that it gives them guard. Depending on what units you have on top of your grave the card’s value can vary from game to game, but probably if you are playing this card, and if it is around turn 7, you have decent units on top of your grave to summon back. Because it doesn’t summon a specific unit like the Ancient Sphinx, I think the card is not effective as the Sphinx, but it is still a good card both in and outside of Bouran decks.

21-) Noxdeos, the Cursed
A 10-cost 10/10 that summons 5 other units. That doesn’t sound bad, but of course, those units don’t come into play with their original stats but rather they come into play as 1/3s. Since they come with guard keywords, they can hold the game if needed and also the enemy attacks can trigger their death effects. Unfortunately, since the summoned units have low stats, they can’t push damage and they can be easily removed, Noxdeos also doesn’t have any protection and it can be removed too. Depending on the death effects of the the units it can either become a good or bad play. If it had a different condition such as summoning top health, cost, or attack units, Noxdeos could be much better, but right now it stays as an okay finisher both for Bouran and other hero decks.

Thanks for reading part 4 of the series. Overall, new Heart cards are pretty fun to play and they add lots of new options to the game for new strategies.
see you in Part 5 🙂
