Hello everyone, welcome to Part 1 of Discovery Hero Review. In 2021, I published a 3 part series called Discovery Prism Review and today those articles are a bit outdated, so I wanted to recreate them. Let’s see what has changed since then.
In this series, I play 10 games with each hero and rate them out of 5 for early, mid, and late-game performance. At the end of the ten games, I take the average of scores and form a Dominance score which displays the hero’s power level. I also rate them for different areas such as; Lifegain, Removal, Card Draw, and Synergy. However these are just to give more information about the hero, they do not affect the main score. I will also include stats on what’s the amount of mana when the game is over and win rates. I wish you a pleasant reading.
ADA
I am playing Skyweaver since 2019, and since 2019 Ada has always performed well in discovery. Bulky units dominate the board even at early turns, effective removal spells clear the way, and buff spells that make strong units even stronger are among some of the reasons to choose Ada. In early turns Ada is capable of playing strong units that can turn out to be threats if left on the board, thus this forces the opponent to play their early removal spells to clear those units. This creates an advantage for the mid-game because Ada has well statted mid-game units, and the opponents usually have to use more than removal or removal + a unit to clear those bulky units which put them in a disadvantageous position because the number of cards in their hand becomes less and they sacrifice their units most of the time instead of a fair trade. Ada has also effective early-game removal spells that can clear the threats of the opponent easily, the problem is you don’t get them each time, but even though you may not get them each time, many strength units come up with attached removal spells that come in handy in this kind of situations.
With Ada games usually end before going to the late game, 3 of the games that I played ended at turn 6, and if the game goes to the late game, your advantage is that the opponent most likely spent most of their removal already and you can take advantage of giant finishers of Strength prism such as {{Tiamat}} and {{Titanic}}. Another advantage of Ada is it has access to a good amount of card draw, however, when too many of them appears in your hand it can put you in a disadvantageous position because the drawn cards most likely won’t be cheap to play. Lastly, a final advantage is synergy possibilities. With the recent patches and expansions, Ada has gained a good amount of Earth and Armis synergies. In some games, you can see these cards contributing to each other well and giving you an advantage.
A critical disadvantage of Ada is its ability to deal with fast decks, when the opponent fills their board fast and constantly puts pressure it becomes hard to deal with them. I won 7 and lost 3 games with Ada and 2 games that I lost ended before the late game. Its access to life gain is another limiting factor. Some prisms can utilize units or card effects such as {{Libra}} to continue fighting and turn the tides, however, it’s not the case for Ada. She mostly relies on units with lifesteal to replenish her life back and they are not guaranteed to survive. With its easy playstyle and large units I can recommend Ada to all players, especially to new players.

LOTUS
Lotus was a hero that surprised me a little because he does and also doesn’t do what he is supposed to do properly in every game. What do I mean by that? When I review and score heroes, I try to do it by considering their play style. For example, you expect Ada to be the dominant midrange hero and you expect Lotus to be a dominant late-game hero since he is using the control prism Wisdom. In most games Lotus perfectly controls the early game and mid-game, he prevents the enemy hero from rushing you with fast units or strong units by using effective removal spells, card draw, and units(also with unit attachments). He usually does not run out of resources and effectively generates them, which allows him to survive many early and midgame situations without losing so much of his health and this is what we expect from a control prism in general. At the same time, we expect it to set the ground for the late game, and he also does that. In most situations, the opponents do not have many cards left in their hands or so much HP. This is perfect for a late-game setup, however, what’s not perfect is the units.
In Ada’s situation, she can utilize Strenght’s powerful units, and even if she can’t draw those late-game units, her mid-game units still have good attack stats. However, for Lotus, this is not the case. His late-game units are either not powerful enough or they require synergies to be powerful, and that’s a downside of Wisdom, without the support of other prisms or a constructed setup, it lacks the synergy. Also, its mid-game units are weak in terms of attacking power thus Lotus is not able to effectively finish the game and usually, the opponent catches up and wins the game. Let’s look at some unit examples, {{Kha Meht}} {{Fatcat Banker}} {{Sky Phoenix}}, they all have low attack powers and they require synergy to work properly, and for the mid-game units such as; {{Lorekeeper}},{{Cloud Sloth}},{{Frost Adept}}, unfortunately, the situation is same. In overall I found Lotus to be a risky choice. If you can set the late game well, and you have large units already in hand around turn 8-9, you can win the late game, otherwise, it can turn into a luck game.

SAMYA
Samya is a very powerful but also a fragile hero at the same time, which makes her a risky choice but when it works, playing with Samya feels so fun and rewarding. Samya is an Aggro hero and she aims to end the game as fast as possible. This usually requires a strong early game which allows you to successfully transition to the mid-game and finish the game before the late game. So when all the pieces work you get a perfect burst to end the game, however, if a piece doesn’t work, then the whole system of Samya fails completely. For example, if you can’t have a good start with Samya, then most likely you won’t be able to answer the threats of your opponent and catch up at the same time, and if you can’t have a successful mid-game, Samya is not designed for late-game, so she won’t be able to survive in late-game. Of course, expectations can happen, but it’s usually like this.
The good thing about Samya is that if a piece works well, the rest most likely won’t fail. I had a 70% win rate with Samya and for the 6/7 games that I won, they ended before the turn 9, this shows how explosive it can get even with a non-constructed deck. Her mid-game is very strong. It doesn’t have to be perfect but if you can set the pace in early turns, she can dominate the mid-game successfully and win you the game quickly. If she had a strong mid-game but couldn’t finish the game quickly, still she can deal the final blows in the late game, but if you weren’t able to bring their health very low, she doesn’t have the tools to survive for the later turns. Also, if you had a bad mid-game but still survived to reach late-game, unfortunately in most scenarios she won’t be able to make a comeback and win that game. Samya has always been my favorite hero because it’s entertaining to play with her even though it’s also very risky. I can recommend giving her a chance and see if her play style suits you.
