How To Reach Higher Ranks By Building Upon Agility Starter Deck
The Agility Starter Deck is built around Samya’s hero ability. It allows you to clear threats by using your hero’s power and providing your units with a clear way to attack the enemy hero.
Even though the deck is fun to play and effective, some cards can be replaced and make the deck much more effective for climbing the ranks.
In this guide, my aim is not to provide the deck directly to you but to provide the options that you may remove and add to your deck. I will try to mention why these options benefit the starter deck.
Also, these cards are optional and you don’t have to add all of them. You can select the ones that you have from your available card pool or if you prefer you may buy some of them.
Here is the code of original Agility starter deck: SWxAGY024CAxrwfsrA9eYhgfXMDWbQnx8bZKRpXJuRU4a62SoLfqbp6nZC3zwHX8pMDsxqJyJr79aEHPHFtAvyzNN7
Pieces Of The Puzzle
1-Cost
Card You Can Remove
Cygnan Monk: Cygnan Monk is a very basic card that doesn’t provide any benefit. Even though it has stealth it is vulnerable to most of the attacks and doesn’t give any extra when it attacks or when it is in play.
Cygnan Pupil: Similar to Monk, Cygnan Pupil is also a unit that is very vulnerable to attacks. However, having access to banner at 1-cost is not so bad and it can be kept in the deck if you have no other alternatives. Besides its banner, it doesn’t provide any extra value.
Cards You Can Add
Other Useful Options
You don’t need to cut 1-cost spells in the starter deck. However, later if you feel like you want to change them. Fire Rune and Baneful Strike can be nice additions. Rune can be used as a removal spell, can give your hero banner which synergizes well with Samya’s hero ability, or can be used to make a unit stronger and draw a card.
With a similar logic, Baneful Strike also gives your hero a banner, which can allow it to remove a unit with wither, or can allow your hero to steal some life.
Blitz is also not a bad spell which can be useful if you regularly find yourself running out of cards too quickly in your hand.
2-Cost
Card You Can Remove
Cygnan Fencer: Fencer is a unit that can serve as a removal tool but has a very low chance of surviving after it attacks. Because of this, it is very hard to gain any benefit from it. A better removal tool can be chosen instead of Fencer, such as; Lightning Vile or Snap Trap.
Cards You Can Add
Anoint in Flame: A very useful card that allows your hero to have a +1 attack throughout the game. It is very beneficial because it lets you use your hero attack much more efficiently. Even if you have no banner units on board you can still benefit from your hero attacks.
Cube Junior: Another effective but also risky card to use because it is very easy to get removed. However, when it is on board it grants your hero +1 power and allows you to steal life from the enemy hero. Considering that you will have some amount of banner cards in the deck, Cube Junior’s effect can make it much easier for you to attack enemy units because you already gained life in the previous turns.
Sky Keeper: By its own Sky Keeper may not seem very impressive at first, however, it is not an easy card to remove from the board thanks to its Shroud attachment which doesn’t let enemy heroes target this unit with spells, effects, and abilities. If you can combine this unit with other shroud units such as Gleamguide, Disciple of Gusto, or Gusto, it can give your opponent a very hard time. Disciple of Gusto is also one of the key cards that you should consider adding to this deck.
Other Useful Options
Even though these cards do not directly fit into the deck, they can be useful if you don’t have the main recommended cards. Gleamguide is a nice statted unit that can dust dead enemy cards, which is a good counter against Bouran decks and it is protected by the shroud.
Imposter can help to open the way, and gain extra banner or guard.
Pair of Jacks can serve as a removal tool and having Yellowjacks in hand can slow down the opponent.
Snap Trap, Lightning Vial, and Void Knight can serve as removal tools.
Supersonic can make Fox Familiar trigger instantly or allow Saber to hit units on summon.
3-Cost
Cards You Can Remove
Trusty Steed: It is the simple version of Songrider and should be replaced with it.
Vulpine Scout: Weak attack power for a 3-cost dash unit, and after attacking it has a low chance of creating any impact on board.
Cards You May Add
Gale: The deck is based around benefiting from hero attack and Gale allows your hero to attack one more time. It is useful for pushing damage against the enemy hero or destroying enemy units.
Song Rider: It is the upgraded version of Trusty Steed that summons a Songbird on death allowing your hero to keep staying powerful.
Skyfire Master: The original Starter Deck is made of fire and air cards. Master is a really good card that can boost them. It also has decent stats and shroud to protect itself.
Other Useful Options
Lau Sensei can be used to draw your lowest-cost air spell and take advantage of it. For example, it can be used for adding banner on Fan Strike or Samya’s Speed.
Both Hot Dog and Run Wild can fit this deck because the deck contains a good amount of fire cards. They can be useful for increasing your tempo.
4-Cost
Card You Can Remove
Air Slash: Air Slash is not a bad card but its condition must be met to gain value out of it and that might not be possible each time. Also, it is limited to one unit, which makes it not as good as Flame Volley or Strike Storm which already exists in the deck.
Cygnan Master: Cygnan Master is another good and useful card but Disciple of Gusto is same cost superior version of it. So you can replace it with Disciple or keep it if you don’t have the Disciple.
Stern Lesson: Similar to Air Slash you must meet its condition to gain its value. Even at low cost, the card is not very good, because the Monks it summons are not extremely useful units. Unlike Cygnan Elder, it doesn’t stay on board to keep providing value.
Cards You Can Add
Disciple of Gusto: Disciple of Gusto is one of the key cards that you can add to make the starter deck much better. Is it superior to Cygnan Master by having stealth and shroud. Its ability fits the playstyle of this deck and it has protective abilities to defend itself.
Solara: The starter deck is based around hero attacks and making them effective. Solara can be a very good option to add to this deck because her ability benefits from hero attacks and makes them stronger. Her effect can allow you to have a nice board which can benefit your hero and can combine very well with other cards of this deck such as; Strikestorm or Fan Dance.
Zapeta: Zapeta’s effect may not look as impressive as Disciple or Solara but it can be a very good addition to this deck. Banner cards are very useful in the starter deck and Zapeta provides that banner on top of that it draws a card with banner that can be useful. In addition to this, her lifesteal can be helpful if she survives and her zap can serve as a small damage tool.
Other Useful Options
Montage is not a bard card to run in this deck especially if you added Flock into it. It can combine well with Aerigos, the Branded. Also, can partially work well with the base version of the deck as a removal tool and finisher.
Chainslaher is another unit that you may add depending on your preferences. Its effect does not directly relate to the deck’s identity but it can open a passage by removing the enemy guards can help your hero and units to directly attack the enemy hero.
5-Cost
Card You Can Remove
Cygnan Ranger: Cygnan Ranger’s effect is not a bad effect by itself but Ranger’s stats are making it hard to be useful. Possible when it comes into play, Ranger will attack an enemy unit and won’t survive the next turn. 5 is a high cost to pay for a unit that may not survive and provide its effect in the next turn. The 1-cost Flare Up can serve this purpose much better.
Cards You Can Add
Flock: Flock provides +4 attack power to your hero on the turn that is used. +4 attack can be very effective for removing units and dealing damage to the enemy hero. Also, Flock can combine well with almost all other cards in the deck or with the cards that you may add.
Honor Guard: Honor Guard is a useful unit that can slow down your opponent and can help you keep pushing. On death, it summons an Armis Guard which also has a banner. So, even if the Honor Guard gets destroyed, the Armis Guard can keep granting you the +1 power.
Other Useful Options
Blademaster can benefit from being in this deck. Since your hero will regularly have more than 1 power it will be easier to summon Blademaster.
The recently added Ashen Scourger can also find itself of use in this deck. Ashwolves that are summoned by Ashen can grant your +1 on death and that power can be combined with other cards and the hero ability of the deck.
6-Cost
Card You Can Remove
Storm’s Fury: Stom’s Fury is a card that can slow you down. You don’t usually play late game with Samya. The card is more expensive than almost all units in the deck. If you are not the aggressor and your opponent is pushing you, the card can do more harm than benefit because you pass a turn by not playing an answer.
Vulpine Mage: Vulpina Mage has low defensive stats and it is very easy to remove from the game, so it is hard to benefit from its ability in upcoming turns.
Cards You Can Add
Mighty Steed: A mighty unit that adds both protection and power to your hero. Since the unit itself also has banner, in total your hero will have +3 power and will take less damage from hero attacks and the unit attacks. With its spell, you can also gain additional attack power and draw 2 cards.
Queen of Jacks: Another unit that provides valuable benefits when your hero attacks. Yellowjacks can help to clear enemy units or even kill the enemy hero when there are units on board. Because they target the lowest health enemy. Its 7 health can allow it to survive attacks and spells. Its spell can help to push more damage. When combined with extra hero attacks, Queen of Jacks can be very deadly.
Other Useful Options
Catch! can be used as a removal tool to clear an enemy unit, and deal damage to an enemy hero. Since it has banner it can help your hero to push more damage, allowing you to destroy more than 1 unit or end the rival hero.
Some other cards that can be useful
Mountain Lion: A finisher that works well in banner decks. Depending on how you shape the starter deck and how many banner cards you add to it, Mountain Lion can become useful. For the original version of the deck, it can still work but it is better to use it in an upgraded deck.
Wu-Kin Scrapper: Scrapper is a powerful unit that can serve as a removal tool and finisher at the same time. It can combine well with multiple hero attacks and end the game quickly.
Abyss Lion: A strong unit that has guard, wither, banner, and shield. On top of all of these, it summons two zomboids with banner which increases your hero’s attack power. It goes very well with decks that use multiple hero attacks.
Great Gusto: A very nice finisher that provides banner to your hero and sends a unit back to hand. It can open the way and let your hero and units finish the game. Or it can wait for the next turn, for your hero to clear the way and it can finish the enemy hero.
Soulpyre Titan: Since the deck uses lots of hero attacks, your hero will take lots of damage which will make summoning Soulpyre Titan much easier.
I hope you enjoyed reading this guide. I would like to mention again that, all suggestions in this guide are optional and don’t mean that you should add or remove all of the cards. Adjust your deck according to your preferences and the cards that you already have.
See you in the Sky!
